Smart Structure

  
     
  A smart structure, in electrical engineering, is one which can adapt to its environment by altering its physical characteristics in response to information from sensors embedded within it. Exciting applications of such an idea range from civil engineering to automobiles and aeroplanes, where the structure could change, for example, its shape, colour, stiffness or thermal conductibility.
