Junk Art |

|
Junk Art was a 1950s and 1960s movement which used industrial junk, urban debris and the detritus of the consumer society as the raw material for art. In both its examination of the accepted limits of fine-art practice and its use of junk as raw material it is related to Braque\'s and Picasso\'s Synthetic Cubist collages, the found objects of the Dadaists and the Arte Povera group. In one of the definitive creative acts of Junk Art, the sculptor César assembled synthetic sculptures from car bodies crushed in a hydraulic press into grotesque building blocks. MG PD |
