|
Earth Art (also known as Land Art or Environmental Art) was a 1960s movement related to conceptual art and against the urban sophistication of minimalism. It was an attempt to broaden the accepted boundaries of sculpture, making the environment more than simply a context but the material for the work itself. Thus Robert Smithson constructed a 500 m Spiral Jetty in the Great Salt Lake, and Walter de Maria inscribed two white lines in the Nevada Desert in Mile Long Drawing. MG PD
