Deontology |

|
In a deontological (from Greek dei, ‘it is right’ plus ‘ology’) system of ethics, there are certain moral rules and the righteous person is one who follows those rules. According to the rules, certain actions are absolutely forbidden, regardless of the consequences of not performing them. I may not kill an innocent child, even if the whole world would be saved by its death. So deontologists think that the rightness or wrongness of an action is independent of its consequences. In that, they are anti-consequentialist. AJ
