Coding theory, in mathematics, is the study of the various ways information can be carried in codes. This is an area of increasing importance today, with more and more information of more and more kinds being transmitted over telephone lines, radio transmissions and the like; coding theory is used to determine the most effective way to send information and to avoid problems with corruption in transit.
