Acculturation is the process of adoption, by one cultural group, of the customs, traits, traditions and values of another group with which it has been brought into contact. Studies of acculturation, especially among immigrant communities, usually focus on the effects of novel or different cultural conditions upon the original culture. Acculturation makes political integration much easier to accomplish. Acculturation can be distinguished from assimilation because it is one-sided: one group adapts its culture to another\'s, rather than a merger of identities taking place. Before acculturation is fully completed some affected individuals may protest and inaugurate an ‘ethnic revival’: attempting to revitalize their disappearing culture. BO\'L
